Reverend Monsignor James J. Wolf
Reverend
Monsignor James J. Wolf, 70, of Sacred Heart Parish, Warsaw,
died Aug. 31, 2010 at Indiana University Simon Cancer Center,
Indianapolis.
He was born Jan. 21, 1940, in Fort
Wayne, to Walter J. and Esther B. Busch Wolf.
He was educated at St. Jude Grade
School and Central Catholic High School of Fort Wayne. He
graduated from St. Joseph College of Rennselaer and Resurrection
College of Kitchener of Ontario, Canada, and Mount Saint Mary
Seminary of Cincinnati, Ohio.
On May 31, 1959, he was ordained
into the priesthood by Bishop Leo A. Pursley at St. Jude Church
in Fort Wayne.
He faithfully served the church
in the following assignments for more than 40 years: July 1,
1969, he was appointed assistant to St. Matthew Cathedral of
South Bend; July 2, 1973, he was appointed assistant to St. Mary
Church of Decatur; July 5, 1977, he was appointed chaplain of
St. Joseph High School of South Bend; July 7, 1980, he was appointed
consultor to the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend; May 23, 1982,
he was reappointed to the Committee for Retired Clergy; April
15, 1986, he was appointed co-vicar general, co-chancellor for
the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend and appointed co-rector
of the Cathedral of Fort Wayne; Dec. 8, 1988, he was reappointed
to Board of Consultors for a term of five years; May 4, 1994,
he was reappointed to Board of Consultors for a term of five
years; July 15, 1995, he was appointed by The Holy See as chaplain
for His Holiness (Monsignor); Sept. 5, 2000, he was appointed
pastor, Sacred Heart Church; Jan. 1, 2001, he was reappointed
to Board of Consultants; Sept. 1, 2003, he was appointed episcopal
vicar for Region C for a three-year term.
He is survived by two sisters,
Mary (and spouse Michael) Barnes, Fort Wayne, and Carolyn Grogg,
Oxnard, Calif.; 16 nieces and nephews; 25 great-nieces and nephews;
and a great-great-niece.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday
at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Bishop Kevin C. Rhoades
celebrating the funeral mass and Bishop John M. D'Arcy delivering
the message. Burial will be at Catholic Cemetery, Fort Wayne,
at 3 p.m. Tuesday.
Calling is 2 to 5 p.m. and 6:30
to 8 p.m. Monday and one hour prior Tuesday to the service. There
will be a rosary service at 4:45 p.m. and an evening prayer vigil
service at 7:30 p.m. Monday.
