    Carol Ann Stoughton Dirlam died Sunday morning at age 57, June 21, 1998, in Ball Memorial Hospital, Muncie, Indiana, after a long struggle with cancer.  She had remained positive until the end; even sending in her reunion information that she planned to attend but passed away less than a month before the reunion.  She and her family had many happy times during the past few years, vacationing together and even taking a cruise together.
    She was born October 28, 1939 in Logansport, Indiana, and graduated there in 1958 and then from Ball State Teachers College [now is Ball State University
].  She  and her husband Art Dirlam, Jr. had also lived in Terre Haute, Cincinnati, OH, Louisville, KY, Kingsport, TN, Marion, CA, and Colorado before settling with her family in Muncie in 1973.
    Carol was a member of First Presbyterian Church, and had attended Grace Episcopal and Dayspring Friends Church.  She was a volunteer for Kids On The Block, served meals at Christ Temple, and was active in the Wednesday Morning Women's Bowling League and Tuesday Delaware Country Club Bowling League.  She also was a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority.
    She was a 4-H leader at Northside, teaching sewing, cooking, arts and crafts, and was a judge at 4-H fairs.
    Survivors in addition to her husband and four children (Eric, Dana, Dori, and Dion) include her parents in Logansport, a sister Janet, brother Ronald, and nine grandchildren.
    Burial was in Gardens of Memory Cemetery, north of Muncie.
