David Harold Payne, Sr.

     David H. Payne, Sr. age 60, died on March 16, 2001.
     David went into the Army after he graduated from Logansport High School in 1959 and became an MP.  While stationed at Fort Harrison he met and married Pat Ledger of Anderson, Indiana, who passed away in 1998.  His wife had worked in an office in Lafayette.
     After David got out of the Army in 1968, he was on the Tippecanoe Co. Sheriff's Dept. and retired. He also worked as an investigator for the Tippecanoe Prosecutor until his death.  He was a member of the GOP in Lafayette where he was awarded the Policeman of the Year Award in 1980.
     Dave and Pat had 3 sons, Robert, David, Jr., and Tim who survive.  David, Jr. is a captain with the Lafayette Police and Tim is an inspector with the Lafayette Police. (5-15-04)

     This above information was received from John Ray, Sr. who is married to David's sister, Helen. John is originally from Logansport, too, and retired twice, once from the military and once from Indiana Department of Labor.
